Connecticut Stars and Mid Fairfield Agree to Combine Girls’ Hockey Programs
The Connecticut Stars and Mid Fairfield are announcing today their intention to create what is expected to be one of the strongest girls’ hockey programs in the nation – the Mid Fairfield Connecticut Stars. Mid Fairfield has a long tradition of fielding nationally competitive boys’ teams and has recently entered the girls’ hockey arena with the clear potential to follow in these footsteps. The Connecticut Stars has a storied history in girls’ hockey with a number of appearances in national competition. Both of our programs take enormous pride in our ability to attract great players from great families, who love the game of hockey and the opportunities it creates for exciting academic achievement, friendships and fun. The Stars and Mid Fairfield believe that this combination will create a better, stronger organization, capable of attracting the best coaches and the best players, with a focus on providing an outstanding development and competitive experience for our girls.
Moe Tarrant, Founder of the Stars, expressed his excitement about this combination when he said: “This is a home run for both programs. We will have the scale and resources to compete with any program in the country, but we will remain very focused on our primary purpose – doing everything we can to make our girls better hockey players and helping them achieve their academic and athletic dreams.”
The Stars and Mid Fairfield bring a number of powerful assets to this combination. We have two nationally recognized brands which have attracted terrific players over the years and produced winning results. We have great relationships with some of the best coaches in the region and intend to leverage this talent into an outstanding development experience for our girls. We also have excellent relationships with conveniently located rinks in different parts of the State, including Shelton, Darien, Stamford Twin Rinks and Harbor Yard. This gives us access to desirable ice times for practices and games and the ability to attract players throughout Connecticut and bordering States. Finally, this combination will strengthen the financial resources we can put behind the depth and breadth of our program – quality coaches, skill development, tournament participation, ice time, and the other critical ingredients to competing on a national scale.
The Stars and Mid Fairfield will hold combined tryouts as follows. We plan to have Tier I teams at the U19, U16, U14 and U12 levels and hope to have Tier II teams at the U12, U14 and U16 levels, assuming we have a strong turnout.

We are very excited about the promise of this combination. It comes at a time of increasing competitiveness in girls’ hockey. It brings together two great brands in youth hockey which share a passion for excellence and the desire to give our girls the best opportunity to realize their potential as student athletes.
We hope all of our players and their families will share our enthusiasm for the creation of the Mid Fairfield Connecticut Stars. More information will be forthcoming before tryouts about our plans for next season. In the meantime, we appreciate your support.

Just a reminder about the coaches helmet rule: Here is the rule and penalties if the rule is not followed. They apply to both coach and program.
CHC - USA Hockey Coaches Helmet Rule and Violations
ALL coaches MUST be wearing helmets on the ice during all practices. This includes house and travel teams, as well as clinics. There has been plenty of time to communicate this rule, and compliance should be a given at this point. But this has not been the case. The rule is simple and does require 100% compliance by all CHC member programs and their coaches.
The rule is as follows. A “modern” helmet must be used at all times when a coach is on the ice. Enforcement is made through the punishment for each offense: 1st infraction = Warning; 2nd infraction = 1-game suspension; 3rd infraction = Match penalty. Sanctions may also be imposed upon the program for wanton disregard of this rule.
